Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy has its roots in osteopathy and is a gentle yet profound manual therapy that directly influences the central nervous system, promoting self-regulation and enhancing internal self-healing resources (homeostasis). It improves the quality of life for people of all ages.
The therapist creates a safe relationship field for the client and, through empathetic and neutral listening, uses subtle and respectful touch to feel the craniosacral rhythm; a rhythm that is perceived as a subtle respiratory movement in all the structures that make up the craniosacral system (brain, spinal cord, cerebrospinal fluid, meninges, cranial bones, pelvis and sacrum) and that is also transmitted to all organs and tissues of the body. The quality with which this impulse emerges and is transmitted to the entire organism is something that can be felt by the hands of an experienced craniosacral biodynamic therapist and that determines the client’s state of health and vitality.
It is a Therapy based on the concept of Inherent Health, which helps the client’s system connect with its own self-healing mechanisms.
It is a holistic approach, addressing physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels.
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy traces its origins to osteopathy, with its founder being the American W. Garner Sutherland.
Sutherland had a revelation while still a student of osteopathy. He observed how easily a skull was disarticulated and while holding a pair of temporal bones in his hands, he was certain that the beveled arrangement of its sutures facilitated a respiratory movement, similar to that of the gills of a fish. He referred to this phenomenon as the primary respiratory movement, as it precedes pulmonary respiration and exists from the moment of conception.
Sutherland dedicated over 50 years of his life to studying this discipline.
Initially, Sutherland’s approach was more biomechanical, but it gradually evolved towards a more subtle, holistic, and even spiritual perspective.
Rollin Becker, one of Sutherland’s students, introduced the term “Biodynamics” to describe the movement that generates a subtle force within the body.
Presently, Franklin Sills is regarded as a pioneer in the field of Craniosacral Biodynamics. He teaches the most subtle and spiritual aspects of this discipline, focusing on the Breath of Life and its transformation into form (the body) through various rhythms known as Tides.

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCT) is a gentle and respectful therapy suitable for individuals of all ages, from babies to the elderly.
BABIES AND CHILDREN
- It promotes conception.
- It is beneficial during the perinatal period, providing support for both mother and baby by addressing physical and emotional changes, thereby promoting a smoother and more harmonious process.
- Helps both baby and mother release any trauma retained from the birth process.
- Assists with conditions such as congenital torticollis, cranial deformations, and symptoms resulting from cranial tension due to intrauterine position or instrumentation during birth.
- Plays a crucial role in all stages of a child’s development.
TEENAGERS, ADULTS AND SENIORS
- Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCT) regulates the Central Nervous System by activating the parasympathetic or relaxation system, prompting the body to repair tissues and move towards a state of health.
- It is recommended for conditions such as stress, trauma, nervousness, anxiety, sleep disorders, skin disorders, hair loss, and more.
- BCT helps balance the function of other systems in the body, including the endocrine and immune systems.
- It is beneficial for treating injuries or pain, whether muscular or joint-related.
- BCT aids in the recovery process following trauma, accidents, and surgical operations.
- It is recommended for issues related to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), bruxism, and tensions arising from prolonged dental interventions.
- BCT contributes to an improved general state of well-being, resulting in greater vitality and an uplifted mood.
- It is an ideal preventive therapy and assists in managing life’s transitions by providing resources on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels.
